On April 25th, Parkinson’s Pointe hosted its very first Spinathon! The idea for the event began when Loren Richmond and instructor Jenny were chatting in class about an event Jenny used to organize. Loren quickly insisted Parkinson’s Pointe needed something similar, and just like that, the Spinathon was born.
This high-energy event brought together members, families, and the wider community for a morning of movement, connection, and purpose. Bikes were filled all morning long, with more than 50 participants taking part. Some rode for 30 minutes, while others pushed their endurance for hours. Together, the group raised over $18,000 to support new classes and equipment, helping expand programs and impact even more lives.
Several riders went above and beyond. Carla Cox completed the full four hours, logging an impressive 70.1 miles on her spin bike. Paula Roney rode for nearly three and a half hours, while Loren Richardson capped off the morning with three hours in the saddle, an incredible show of dedication from Parkinson’s Pointe members.
Six participants also earned Spinathon jerseys by raising more than $500 each: Sandy Selzer, Jeff Benson, Paula Roney, Kathy Heck, Carolyn Johnson, and Loren Richmond. Their fundraising efforts played a key role in the event’s success.
The event was made even more special by the generosity of members and community supporters, who created fundraising pages and contributed prizes and food. The Spinathon truly showcased the strength, spirit, and support that define the Parkinson’s Pointe community.
